Promoting Modern Beekeeping
Project no. 2016/CD/M/150 funded by TANZANIA FOREST FUND (TAFF)is being implemented in Njombe District, Lupembe Division, Mfriga Ward in four villages of Mfriga, Madeke, Ikang’asi and Itambo. The project summary was prepared on 1st July 2017 and was used to introduce the project at District level. The District Executive Director along with 19 other professional officials accepted this project.
On 10/07/2017 the project was introduced to professional officials at Division and Ward levels. There after the introduction was done at Mfriga village where Hon. Vasco M. Mgunda the Ward Councilor participated in accepting the project very joyously and gratefully before an audience of about 300 villagers who attended the meeting.
On 11/07/2017 the project was introduced to Madeke villagers where 45 invitees attended.
On 12/07/2017 the project was introduced at Itambo village and about 56 villagers attended and on 13th July 2017 the introduction was done at Ikang’asi village. Here about 20 people were present at the meeting.
On 10/08/2017 we entered an agreement with the person who would make the beehives.
We started our training at Mfriga village, this was done on 16th and 17th August 2017. Twenty people participated in the training. The subjects taught are as shown in the training timetable.
On 18th and 19th August the training took place at Ikang’asi village and on 20th to 21st August we were training at Itambo village while on the 22nd and 23rd August the training was finalized at Madeke village.
The training was well conducted in all villages. The 2nd day of the training was a practical day; participants were trained practically how to make a modern beehive. (See the following pictures),
The project has been introduced at all levels; thus, at District, Division, Ward and Village levels.
(1). 60 women and 20 youths have received training on modern be keeping, harvesting, processing,
packaging and marketing.
(2). 54 modern beehives have been manufactured and labeled “UMEFADHILIWA NA TaFF”
